Mac Catalina Upgrade Crashing Computer
Ever since I updated to Catalina 10.15.5, my Mac crashes every time it goes to sleep. I did some research, and before Catalina 15.15.5, others were also having the same issues. So it's not only Catalina 15.15.5 but also earlier versions like Catalina 15.15.4 that have the same crashing problems. I would think that Apple would fix this by now, but apparently, it's still an issue. Below I have a temporary solution to the problem until Apple fixes the Catalina crashing issues. In my opinion, this solution is a lot better than restarting your computer every time it goes to sleep, which, in my case, is multiple times per day.
How To Fix Catalina From Crashing
Go to Your system Finder and "System Preferences." You can find it on the top menu, and you click the Apple icon, then System Preferences. See image above.
Click the "Energy Saver" icon. See image above.
On the slider that says, "Turn Display off after" slide this all the way to "Never." See image below.
If you are still having issues with crashes, copy my other "Energy Saver" settings, which shows in the image below. What you are doing is keeping the display on, which seems to be the issue of the crash. When you do this, make sure you have a screensaver on your system settings for your Mac. If you have a screen saver on, then instead of the display shutting down, the screensaver will show.
How To Turn Your ScreenSaver On
On System Preferences, go to "Desktop & Screen Saver."
On the top, click "Screen Saver."
Choose the options you want for your screen saver.
There are many threads on Apple's website about this issue, so let's hope that Apple fixes the Catalina crashing problems. Some people suggest under "Energy Saver" to click "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off," which did not work for me, but you are free to give it a try.
